Title: Faux News Network Gets Greedy!
Post by: Palehorse on October 14, 2010, 10:01:40 PM
NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Fox Networks is entangled in another financial dispute over programming, this time with Cablevision, and customers in New York and Philadelphia could lose out as a result.

Cablevision (CVC, Fortune 500) says that Fox, which is owned by News Corp., (NWS, Fortune 500) is demanding too much money -- and is threatening to cut them off if they don't get it.

"In a difficult economy, it is unfair and wrong for News Corp. to demand a huge fee increase from Cablevision customers for Fox's Channel 5 and My9 -- and then threaten to pull the plug if they don't get want they want," said Cablevision, in a prepared statement.

But Fox says it's just trying to get the money it deserves for quality programming.

"Our position in these negotiations is entirely reasonable -- we are simply asking for fair compensation for the value Fox5 and My9 programming offers," said Fox, in a prepared statement.

Cablevision says it is already paying more than $70 million annually for Fox programming, and says Fox wants to bump it up to $150 million. Fox would not confirm or deny details of the finances.

What happens next: This will all come down to the wire at midnight on Friday EST -- the payment deadline for WNYW-Fox5 and My9, both in New York; and another disputed channel, WTXF-Fox29 out of Philadelphia.

"While negotiations are ongoing, we have a responsibility to prepare our viewers for the very likely possibility that as of Friday at midnight -- Cablevision may no longer carry Fox5 and My9, and Fox29 programming," said Fox.

Their way of preparing viewers -- Cablevision has been running ads in an attempt to appeal to subscribers caught in the middle. One of the ads depicts a woman saying, "Hey News Corp, don't make me part of your latest drama."

Outside of this dispute, Fox is still caught up in its pay dispute with another network. Fox blocked 19 regional sports networks in a rate increase dispute with Dish Network (DISH, Fortune 500) at midnight on Sept. 30.

So cablevision is paying fox 70 million a year for its programming, and now fox thinks it is worth over twice that amount?

I have not seen a single program on that network I'd be sorry to not see again! Screw them!

Just thinking, if these people who want view Fox.  Do what they say and are always saying, pay for it yourselves.  Have Fox on Pay for View.  Let they have some of their own medicine.  I sure don't want the cost added to my television.  :@#%&:

I find it ironic that Keith Olbermann whose life's goal is to demonizes Fox News as being biased.....Got caught donating max amount to Liberal Democrats...and got suspended by MSNBC....just thought it was interesting...that's all.

Yes it is interesting, Keith was back on last night.  Isn't it amazing how he was suspended for a $1200 donation to a political fund.  The suspension was illegal and not in his contract.  After a 4 day vacation he is back and with a 300,000 petition to prove his popularity.

As for Fox and it's 1 million dollar donation to the Republican Party, it needs to be demonized.

What's interesting is that MSNBC has a sense of ethics, while the cheerleaders for the republicans over at Fox donated over a million to republican candidates.

What I find deplorable is the blurring of the line when it comes to what you do, and who you are. No longer is your work just what you do, but now is also who you are. Corporations seem to have obtained the right to infringe upon our personal lives, and magically have diplomatic immunity when it comes to operating within the boundaries of constitutional law. . .

Unions do not give donations, each member give a donation.  :chick:  The laws they asked for never hurt you or your family.  In fact every day you work part of what you receive is in part caused by the union actions in the  past.   :chick:  You just don't get do you.  Stone hard brain dead. :wall:
