Since I"m a new member to the Unknown Zone, I have found that the Zone has a large group of cerebral members. Men and women, Plus a few dim bulbs. I don't know what you think of me. But this is my first forum and I am really enjoying it. Really I am.
I have been working out, a hour and a half a day, five days a week. Treadmill, elliptical trainers and stationary bicycles. I have a Cd player and have been getting book sound recording from the Anderson, Ind. library. In the last four weeks I completed five books. It sure makes circuit training go fast and not boring.
So let's hear it from you guys and gals, what you have been reading or listening to and what books you recommend. The Anderson Libray has a large selection. Fiction and nonfiction and music.
The last book I finished was, John Dean's book, "Broken Government". He tell you what has happened in Washington, from Ronald Reagan, to today. Damn this is a good book.

Right now, I'm between books. I have a couple suggestions on my "to read" list that I've picked up from here and there, whenever someone mentions something that sounds interesting to me.
I can't do the books on tape, I've tried. I don't know why exactly, but I have a lot of friends who love them for the commute. They even do the language lesson tapes that way.
I absolutely love to read though. Like Anne, I typically mix my genres. Although I really don't enjoy romance novels. :puke:

Just finished "Clapton" - Eric Clapton's autobiography. Amazingly candid and detailed account of his challenges, experiences, and life. I really enjoyed reading it and was sorry to see it end. I could have kept reading that stuff for a lot longer! I'll say this much for it too, it really helped me understand why he did some of the things he did, and why he is so reclusive when compared to others from the same era.
If you want a good read for a couple of evenings, I'd recommend it. Especially if you like / liked Cream, Derek and the Dominoes, Blind Faith, or just the man himself, Eric Clapton.
He pulls some of the punches, but the ones he swings fully at far outnumber them! :yes: His experiences with addiction are truly horrifying and leave one wondering how the man can still be alive after all of it. :yes:
I've been reading a book called No Reason For Dying which was written by Brian Settles a guy I went to school with. It's about his experiences being of mixed race and adopted by a black family and his time in Nam as a fighter pilot and then as a commercial airline pilot. It is very well written and, to me, interesting. Don't know if it would be as interesting a read to someone who didn't know him but to me it is interesting and informative about a part of the Nam war I hadn't really thought about. I knew some people who were there but one was a Navy corpsman and the rest were Army and I had never talked to or knew any fighter pilots.
If you want to devour some good books, get a CD player and go to the library and get some sound recordings. Work out 1 1/2 hours, 5 days a week. This is what I have consumed in the last 8 weeks.
Broken Government by John Dean. A good listen. The God delusions by Richard Dawkins. Really good listen. Who let the dogs out by Molly Ivins. Good Listen. Theory of everthing by Steven Hawkins. Rather deep, but then again he really doesn't know himself. TRIGGER MAN by Hans Halberstadt. About American snipers in Iraq, this is a damn good listen. You wouldn't want one of these men, shooting at you. They Flew, American Knights of the Air. American pilots in the battle of Britain in World War II. Good Listen. Fly Boys, James Bradly, about American pilots in World II in the Pacific, and about what the Japs did to them. Makes you want to go out and buy a Jap car. Good listen. American Hero by Oliver North. Super Capitalism by Robert Reich, good listen. But when you hear what has happen to our country and what the Super Capitalist are doing to us, I don't think there much for the common people. But I don't think I'll be around when it gets real bad and the shit happens.
