Title: Groundhog Day?
Post by: Mr442 on February 16, 2010, 02:38:00 PM
With the demise of my beloved Super Duty, I have been on the lookout for another truck.  Went to a couple dealers before i ended up right back in the place I bought the 03, seven years ago, in February.

Where this gets weired is, the dealership had been closed for about a year, and only recently re-opened.  I was approached by the same salesman who sold me the 03, and I ened up with a virtual twin of a truck, save for a couple of options, and it being 7 years newer.  But wait, Both trucks had been on the lot since the fall of the previous year, as both had early build dates.

Needless to say, I started having flashes of BIll Murray in Groundhog day, flashing through my brain.  I sure as hell hope I don,t put this one on its lidin seven years and find myself back again in late February.

I'm betting if you compare the numbers you will wish it were 7 years ago!

I also bought my truck in 03, and it had been built on my birthday the previous year. (A fact I discovered a week or so after bringing it home, when I found the build stickers that included date of manufacture).

I firmly believe that sometimes fate knows damned good and well what it is doing!

BTW - Congrats on the new ride! Too bad it isn't a diesel though! (Or is it?)

Nope no kerosene burner for me.  I love the power, but won't spend the extra for that option, especially with the low returns we have right now.  Not enough fuel mileage to offset the price.  I'm getting another 5.4, but it now has 300 horses thanks to a three valve head.  It will move right out.  I'm also going with one of those new fangled automatic transmissions, I hear they work well.  I'll probably stomp the brakes a time or two, until I get it embedded that there is no clutch.  But I am sure my left knee will appreciate it in traffic.  I'll get some pictures up next week.

I got one of those auto-matics too.

The Allison version is one hell of a unit, and I have to say I am still impressed with it 7 years after buying it. I never saw one that could downshift right, until this one. Get a heavy load or wagon on and put that thing into tow/haul mode, and when you let off the accelerator it starts downshifting like the very best long haul trucker you ever saw. (Real handy on those steep downgrades that curve enough to make you dizzy too, and saves your brakes for stopping instead of slowing the rig down!)  8)

I look forward to seeing those pics though!
