QuoteSen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) is putting Capitol Hill on a "Code Red" alert Tuesday in an effort to stop the Senate's health care reform legislation.
In a release from his office Monday, DeMint announced he will speak at what is being billed as an "emergency rally" coordinated by several groups, including the American Conservative Union and the Susan B. Anthony List.
"The event has 'tea party' trimmings and plenty of muscle, including grass-roots support from six states," according to the GOP senator's Web site.

I listened to the entire 10 minutes of this joker parroting propaganda, half-truths, and outright lies created to support his skewed logic and twisted perceptions of reality. Complete with props, not the least of which is the confederate flag flapping in the hot air he spews. . .
That you may find validation within any portion of his delusional position is quite disturbing!

If you think I am clicking on some separatist, century and a half long sour-grapes propaganda site, think again!
That is not what it is.
I'm sure that "me" intended to prove a point, but I don't think she realized that she proved the teabagger was full of scheisse.

Hum, I could have sworn that's what he said and that the man carrying the flag in the picture is black.....
QuoteHowever, the Confederate battle flag, Edgerton said, is a Christian battle flag patterned after St. Andrew, Jesus' first disciple, who when faced with crucifixion begged to be nailed to an X-shaped cross because he was not worthy of being crucified on a cross like that of Jesus.

He said a lot more than that and 99.9% of it is incorrect. He ranted for 10 minutes and the best you can do is find a link about a black man carrying the confederate flag? I'll give you and Mr. Teabagger a big hearty "So What!?!"

And your point surrounding the brief biography of MLK is? That he was arrested "upwards of twenty times"? So what? How many of those arrests were trumped up charges resulting from the deep seated racial strife Mr King was fighting to quell? It doesn't say. . . big surprise. One would expect a leader involved in such an emotionally charged movement to incur such negative actions against him.
I also do not get the point of posting the "history" of the battle flag of northern Va., especially since it is universally understood that perception "is the lions share of the reality" for almost everyone. And that flag is typically perceived to represent racial separation by most who have educated themselves on the deplorable points of history surrounding this nation's development. . . Again, so what?
Why was this never an issue until recently? Why was it never associated with racial overtones until recently? divide and conquer, detraction from real issues?

You really need to get out more. 6 years ago I went to a week long excursion on the water at a well known freshwater lake located in the mountains. There were 30 other gentlemen within our party, and among them were a small number who held a similar fondness for that battle flag. So much so they decided to attach it to the masthead of their houseboat, which thankfully I was not aboard.
Once they hoisted that thing, those of us aboard the second craft immediately decided that a change to our customary anchoring procedure was in order. Instead of lashing both of the craft together within a secluded harbor, we chose to tie off in an adjacent cove, and for good reason; every man aboard our craft knew that flying that flag would invite trouble and the interests of the law. And we were not wrong on either count. (In the interest of privacy I will keep the details to myself).
That flag has represented racial separation and an unspoken endorsement of white supremacy for decades now. There is nothing "recent" about it at all. . .

Why since the war had nothing to do with slavery? What happened that caused it to represent racial separation?

Those colors being proudly flown on the masts of groups like the KKK, White Power, and other Neo Nazi groups certainly helped that along.

So some people now go by what it is perceived to represent rather than what it actually represents in other words. If that is the case, which it seems to be, then people need re educated about it rather than keep spreading the myth or false perception.

Those groups have flown those colors at their rallies and gatherings for decades; and all without any type of protest coming from those who now would profess offense at what they represent to the general public.
Too little, too late. . . but good luck with the litigation. . .
Wait, are we talking about the AMERICAN civil war?

Isn't it sad how, because some jack ass groups wanted to fly it at their get togethers, a cloud has been put on something that should represent pride and it's true origin has been smeared and tossed aside? I feel the media should start trying to set people straight on this rather than keep things stirred up and I truly hope the young man in that clip researches it and also helps spread the truth.

Here's a clue for ya: it's been used as a symbol of bigotry for a lot longer than it was used as a symbol for the south. It is not a source of pride; it is a source of shame.
although I understand me's point....there were/are many, who cherish that flag as a symbol of individual state freedoms...and have NO racial motives....but, the flag is without a doubt branded and marked as a bad thing....due to some extremely radical peices of trash who did not fully understand what it's intent was.....so, I gotta agree with PH and ee eexx ...EX (still hard for me to say  ) on this one.
Same thing happened to the swastika, which was simply a good luck symbol until.............

yeah.
IIRC, it's been around for two or three thousand years.
(Please don't hold me to that; I think it's right, but I'm too lazy to check it out right now. Just got done shoveling snow...again -- and I'm inside, getting warm with a cup of coffee and two fingers of Basil Hayden single barrel.)

You know I was going to bring that one up as well. . .
I'm probably not going to phrase this very well but here it goes. It's a shame good things can be turned into something bad so easily with no protest or very little but it can't be reversed because of the negativity of some and the refusal to let go and blame the people who turned it bad to begin with. I guess it's just easier to let it remain bad and diss those who want to use whatever in the way it was intended in the beginning.

I think the name Adolph needs another shot....you just don't see that one used much anymore....
me, you and I usually see things on the same keel...but, I think this one is a hard one to fight...some things, have so badly been abused, even if they was originally a possible good thing....HISTORY has a way of deciding the destiny on most things....
