Title: Who Caused The Economic Crisis
Post by: Exterminator on July 22, 2009, 02:47:19 PM
This is the first in a series of three email exchanges between two very esteemed economists. (http://www.salon.com/opinion/feature/2009/07/22/economic_crisis_part_one/)  It's a good non-partisan read addressing some fundamental flaws in our socio-economic and political system and why no bail out will solve the problem.

I think this question posed in yestedays installment, ...... "Why isn't the FBI breaking down the doors of the commercial and investment banks and grabbing computers so as to preserve incendiary e-mails that will most definitely implicate executives?"

is a very good question.....WHY?.....I think I already know.... ;)

I'm sure you will say that it has something to do with Obama, in which case, you're missing the point.  The point being made here is that for decades, big money has been controlling our political system to such an extent that it no longer works in the best interests of the constiuents but for corporations.  Those corporations have used that influence to change the laws in such a way that they can do anything they want to rip off the consumers and it's all technically legal.  This isn't a partisan issue...both sides are in the game and unless we the people take back our government, this experiment that is America will continue its financial decline.

I'm not saying that it is JUST an obama issue...it is a Washington issue....and THAT is why....

Ex, I KNOW that scum in DC isn't a partisan issue....I'm sick of all of these guys...they are SCREWING AMERICA.

But don't act like Obama and his admin are angels and could NOT be involved or apart of this crap.

As the exchange today points out, even the most well-meaning president has his hands pretty much tied by the status quo and the voters are so taken in by what they're told to believe that they continue to support it.  An interesting statistic thrown out was that despite a dismal 14% approval rating for Congress, over 90% of incumbents were reelected...what message does that send?

Or maybe that Americans are so fixated on stupid social issues like abortion and religion that they don't notice the ass reaming they're getting from the big corporations?

Thanks, pari. You really are the Computer Queen. Ain't it amazing the havoc one can cause by misplacing a close-bracket?

So, are you willing to teach Philo how to use the quote command and how to insert smilies?

Philo is his own breed.  No one can teach him anything he doesn't want to learn.

You will see just how much the corporations own this country, as the way health care should go is completely not-for profit (drugs, insurance, providers), but since the financial sector OWNS health care and all that money would go away, the resulting legislation will undoubtedly add to the riches of the greedy.  The only way health care could have gone the right way is if we would have let AIG, et al, fail.  Too late.

Have you seen the "Association of Insurance Providers" advertising how they support legislation to make health care affordable and accessible for all?  It is very similar to how Shell, Exxon, BP, et al, are all helping the environment... mutherfkkers.
