Is the right to marry for gays a religious issue? Why?
You forgot to add, "Or why not?" And I believe this is another ship that has sailed from here.
I wouldn't touch the question as to whether it's a religious issue. What religion are you addressing?
I do feel that two people, same sex or or otherwise, who have lived together for years deserve to have the same rights as a married couple. This has been hashed and rehashed on these forums so many times it has become old hat.
On the other hand, I don't see why gays feel the marriage ceremony is so important nor why they feel the need to be seen on TV kissing, gloating, and carrying on like a pair of star struck teenager.
