Title: Green Tower
Post by: Palehorse on June 24, 2009, 02:09:49 PM
The ownership of the Sears Tower in Chicago have announced a refurbishment plan to substantially reduce the amount of energy consumed each day by the hulking building, by about 80%. In addition, the group has requested a zoning change from the city in order to build a 50 story "green" hotel right next door.

The hotel is planned to achieve "zero net consumption" when it comes to energy, however details surrounding just how that is going to be achieved were sketchy at best.

The Sears Tower is also scheduled to undergo a name change, due to transition by the end of this summer to Willis Tower, after an insurance brokerage group that is leasing 140,000 square feet of tower space.

Improvements to the tower itself will include replacement of each one of its 16,000 windows, as well as complete refurbishment to its elevator, HVAC, water, lighting, and sewage systems.

Both projects will be conducted at the same time and will bring 3,600 additional jobs (including short term construction work) to the downtown Chicago area.

If there are no windows how high will the light bill be?  Also won't that be bad for the workers who will only see walls now?  Being claustrophobic I would have a hard time working in a place with no windows I don't care how big it is.

Nope; I'm sure they are being replaced with a more energy efficient design.

Only if you're offended by this:

A blonde came to the bank of a river and noticed another blonde on the opposite shore so she called to her, "hey, how do I get to the other side?"

The other blonde looked carefully up the river to her right and then to her left before responding, "you're already on the other side!"

Uh, did you notice the BIG windows under the glass box?   I'm betting doughnuts that if someone was looking out the window, and UP, he/she could see the people standing 4 feet out in the air.

I've been alive long enough to know that for every ounce of prudence, there's 2 ounces of perverseness.
