Plane Departed From Brussels, Destined For Newark; Reserve Crew On Flight To Manage Emergency Landing (http://wcbstv.com/breakingnewsalerts/continental.pilot.dies.2.1049850.html)

A Continental Airlines flight from Brussels will be making an emergency landing at Newark Liberty International Airport after the plane's captain died mid-flight Thursday morning, CBS 2 has learned.

Federal Aviation Administration officials say Continental Flight 61, a Boeing 777, will land at Newark at noon. Newark was the flight's final destination. It left Brussels at 9:45 a.m.

It's not known what caused the pilot to become ill or how he died.

There is no word yet as to how many passengers are on board the flight.

Officials say there are two first officers on the flight and a reserve crew as well. One of the first officers is piloting the plane.

Emergency medical service units are on the scene at Newark.

The Boeing 777 is the world's largest twinjet and can carry nearly 400 passengers on it.

2 First Officers are in control and going to land the aircraft from what I understand.

I also believe they have the ability to fly the aircraft via remote control?????

Isn't it kind of odd, for a 61-year old man, who was healthy enough to begin the flight....to die of natural causes?...

One can walk out of a hospital after a perfectly normal cardiac stress test and die of myocardial infarction on the sidewalk.

but that WOULD be kind of ODD...

I have always found it ODD, for anyone to die of "Natural Causes"...at an realative early age...not that it can't happen...just seems odd.

When I was in the hospital for my bypass surgery, at 46 yo, I was the OLDEST cardiac patient there.

Most were in their twenties and thirties; some were as young as 18 or 19.

LOL!!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My uncle was 61, he had just finished yard work...went in the house to sit down and relax.  My aunt came in shortly after and found him dead of a heart attack.   No prior circumstances or warning.  Just gone.  It's not that odd.
Each person's physical, biological, and chemical makeup is different and unique, as is our life expectancy. . .  :smile:
