Title: Liberty U. expels campus Democrats
Post by: Bo D on May 27, 2009, 09:31:22 AM
"Liberty University, the school in Virginia founded by the late Jerry Falwell, has expelled the Democratic Party club on the campus, saying that the national Democratic Party's views contradict the university's mission."

Well....it is a private school after all. But they need to change their name. They certainly don't present a very good case for "Liberty" with this move.

What do you expect from someone who believes that Teletubbies threaten the moral fiber of world (or at least the country)?

Are you serious?  I pay no attention at all to Jerry Falwell.  I think he's a lunatic, and if that's true it proves it....

Tinky Winky controversy
Tinky Winky started a still hinted-at controversy in 1999 due to his carrying a bag that looks much like a woman's handbag (although he was first "outed" by the academic and cultural critic Andy Medhurst in a letter of July 1997 to The Face). He aroused the interest of Jerry Falwell in 1999 when Falwell alleged that the character was a "gay role model". Falwell issued an attack in his National Liberty Journal, citing a Washington Post "In/Out" column which stated that homosexual comedian Ellen DeGeneres was "out" as the chief national gay representative—while trendy Tinky Winky was "in". He warned parents that Tinky Winky could be a hidden homosexual symbol, because "he is purple, the gay pride color, and his antenna is shaped like a triangle: the gay pride symbol".[10] This has caused many Christians to boycott Teletubbies.[citation needed]

The BBC, who co-produced the program, made an official response, "Tinky Winky is simply a sweet, technological baby with a magic bag." Ken Viselman of Itsy-Bitsy Entertainment, who distributed the show in the USA, commented, "He's not gay. He's not straight. He's just a character in a children's series."[11]

In May 2007, Polish Ombudsman for Children Ewa Sowińska revisited the matter, and planned to order an investigation.[12] She said in the May 28 2007 edition of Wprost that the handbag-carrying Tinky Winky could promote homosexuality. Journalists from Wprost mentioned claims that the Teletubbies promote homosexuality, to which Sowińska replied that she had heard of the issue. The journalists then asked about Tinky Winky. "I noticed that he has a woman's handbag, but I didn't realize he's a boy", Sowińska told the magazine in an interview that her office approved before publication, adding, "Later I learned that there could be some hidden homosexual undertones." Sowińska said she would ask her office's psychologists to look into the allegations "and judge whether it can be shown on public television and whether the suggested problem really exists."

But on May 30 2007, Sowińska said in a public statement that she no longer suspected the Teletubbies of promoting homosexuality. She said: "The opinion of a leading sexologist, who maintains that this series has no negative effects on a child's psychology, is perfectly credible. As a result I have decided that it is no longer necessary to seek the opinion of other psychologists."[13]

In an unrelated incident, reported in 2000, a girl's Tinky Winky toy reportedly said "I got a gun". Kenn Viselman claimed the toy actually said "Again, again!", a catchphrase from the show.[14]

And I had all girls, so the worry about a supposedly male preschooler character being gay had no  impact on them. They thought EVERYONE should carry a purse or bag.

Well you don't have to worry about ole' Jerry.  He dropped dead shortly after asking ole' Gawd to give him 15 more years in the ministry.

Hey, that belongs on the God sucks thread.  ;D

BTW, a very devout girl I used to date (and I know that's hard for some of you to believe) actually went to graduate school at Liberty after getting her undergraduate at Oklahoma Baptist University.  Trust me, no family was more about serving their god than her family was.  She got the hell out of there after 1 semester because Falwell and the loons around that place were too extreme even for her taste.  That should tell you something about that place.

After Ellen DeGeneres came out as a lesbian, televangelist Jerry Falwell referred to her in a sermon as "Ellen DeGenerate." DeGeneres responded by saying "Really, he called me that? Ellen DeGenerate? I've been getting that since the fourth grade."

That ranks right up there with Dan Quayle, I think it was, and The Murphy Brown show when she became a single mom.

It says the Democratic Party club was expelled.   One would assume it was an affiliation similar to the college Republicans which was allowed to assemble and meet on university property.  I doubt Liberty has the authority to disband the group; they'll simply have to find somewhere else to meet since they are all apparently personae non gratae around the campus.

Any democrat moronic enough to attend "Liberty" deserves what they get.

Bingo!   Nicely put.

I'll add one more.  You and your friends can't live your daily lives without the faux intervention of your primary imaginary friend.  ;D

Yes, but actions like these call into question their tax exemption status.

Churches, unlike not-for-profit enterprises, do not deserve the tax status they enjoy, already.  This play at LU (read Looser Univ) isn't the only reason they shouldn't have any kind of tax exempt status.

The one real problem with this cult is that they are graduating lawyers to infiltrate gov't and cause all manner of traitorous harm to the Constitution.

No Democrats at Liberty University?  Is the university at Lynchburg Virginia like the famed Thomas Road Baptist church where Fallwell was peddling his crap from before his demise?

He should have set it up in Kansas, where there are very few to zero Democrats!

Most of the students at LU are congregants at TRBC every Sunday.  So the short answer is yes.
