Title: Paying for Trash Removal
Post by: Prolo on April 13, 2009, 01:02:02 AM
Looks like we're going to have to start paying for trash removal. One of the only free services remaining in the city. Just seems free trasn removal was the one last thing we had in the city that the county didn't have. Used to be lower electric bills, but now they are a lot higher. Used to be free use of the parks, but now we have to pay for about everything. Used to be free romoval of things like old refrigerators etc., but now we have to pay for that also.  Don't know what's left that would keep people from moving into the county. Water and sewage also going way up. Gets frustrating trying to live on what most people are able to make in the community - if they're even lucky enough to be working.

If I was reading right they are going to start charging us to recylce aso. I guess I just do not see why we shoud have to pay for that. Doesn't the company make money on the items being recycled?

If they manage to get LMU to include the trash fee on the electric bill,I assume the city will still pick the trash pickup provider. If I am paying for trash pickup,I think I should be able to pick the provider.

Another thing I wonder about is this: Logansport residents' trash does NOT go to the landfill in Logansport. I think it goes to Wabash. Obviously Wabash Valley had a lower bid than Waste Management for their services. But for every ton of trash that goes to Oakridge, the city gets a pretty good chunk of tipping fees.If they had awarded the trash contract to Waste Management,I wonder if this would even be an issue. They'd have all those tipping fees to pay for the trash service, just like they have always done. The Mayor always talks about keeping our business local. But apparently that philosophy doesn't apply to the city.I know Waste Management is a worldwide company, not a local one,but their local site employs Cass County residents....
