Title: A New Champ!!!
Post by: Dexter Morgan on April 07, 2009, 09:56:21 PM
Well folks, I've got another Champ. Three weeks ago one of my cats had a litter of kittens. One of them looks exactly like Champ. It's a little boy, and get this..... it was born blind. I just realized it the other night. I had it out of the box for play time. I noticed it was kind of smacking into things but,I wouldn't let myself think anything was wrong with it.After what I went through with Champ, I just couldn't let myself believe it. So, I watched it for a little while, and it continued to have problems seeing things in front of it. I don't know why it looks exactly like Champ. Champ was a rescue cat, and I don't have any cats that even remotely look like that. It follows me around constantly, and wants me to hold it. It really is strange because, I ordered a headstone for Champ right around the time it was born. Freaky coincidence.  :spooked: It isn't weaned yet but, as soon as it is, I intend to work with it, and train it.Hubby, isn't too happy about it because of the emotional toll Champ's death took on me. Hopefully, this one wont end the same way.

Dex don't their eyes take a while to develop?  Is it too young to worry about that?  Good luck!

That's what I was thinking too, kimmi, but then I thought if anyone is an expert on cats it would be Dex. not me for sure. I know the lil' fella just warms your heart, Dex. Congratulations on the new addition.

Yes, I'm hopin' to get some pictures. Here's a shocker.... it's a GIRL!!! It's soooo little I couldn't even tell LMAO!!! ;D

Up dates on other critters.....

Pugsly... is still kickin'. He's kind of deaf, and about blind. I have quite a time keepin' him from crashin' into things on his way outside. I'll be walkin' him along, and think he's seeing what's in front of him but, in actuality he doesn't see it, and boom. The surprised look he gets on his face is priceless. I try to steer him in the right direction but, we have an inevitable accident every now, and again. He is extremely hard to wake up. He seems to like to sleep in more and more.

Baby Dexter.....April 18th will mark the one year anniversary of his leg bein' amputated. He has done remarkably well. The only area there have been problems with is potty training. He really doesn't grasp the concept at all. I'm gettin' ready to schedule a neutering after Easter. I seriously hope that solves the problem. *fingers crossed* I hate to say it but.... the boy doesn't have a brain in his head. He just doesn't get anything. That's OK though cause Mama loves him.  :smitten:

Dudley Boy.... He was diagnosed with Feline Leukemia over a year ago. He has done pretty good. He is startin' to lose weight, and it does concern me a little. Right now, he's havin' some trouble with his left ear. I've got him on antibiotics, and it's lookin' better.

I've recently started brushing and massaging my inside cats every night. They really seem to enjoy bein' pampered , and I think it's good for my blood pressure, which has been high lately. It works out good for everybody involved.

Thanks!!!  I think they are pretty much developed. The litter mates seem to be OK.

Thanks Sandy !!! I'm greatly concerned because of how it ended with Champ. Since I lost her I'm somewhat more detached when it comes to the critters. I try not to get super close to them. It seems like the ones do I get super close, to always end up gettin' sick or dying. I try to look at things more objectively. I think with my head...not my heart. I save the ones I can.

Thanks for the updates.  Sure don't seem like a year ago that you were having to go through all that with baby Dex.  My how time flies.
Do you still have your possum borders?

Over the Winter we had several opossums die. The Grand Poobah checked out of Che' Dexter for the final time in late January. He was huge. We had a young one get hit in the road in front of the house a month ago. My neighbor found one frozen to death behind her garage in December. It was sitting on its hind legs frozen solid. It scared the crap outta her.  :spooked: Not a good Winter for theopossums this year. Petunia (the one we raised) hasn't been around for a while. I hope she isn't dead. There was one that resembled her eating out on the deck last weekend.

I know sometimes wildlife is dangerous but it sure would be neat to live where you could watch it all the time.

A couple of weeks ago, I was drivin' to work, and a wild turkey flew in front of my car!!! They really don't fly very good. I'd say it may have been 4 or 5 feet off the ground. I almost had to take the ditch to avoid hitting it. It came outta nowhere, and I just about chit my pants.  :spooked:

Wonder if wild turkey's are as dumb as farm turkey's.

Probably dumber.  My Dad had a turkey decoy in his back yard, and a male turkey ran up, and mounted it!!!  :spooked: A friend of my Dad's shot it while it was gettin' it's jollies. Poor thing probably didn't realize it was a setup. LMAO!!!

*gobble gobble...ban bang* whoot whoot!!!  :turk: :rifle:

Dang, you'd think he could have at least waited 'til he was done.

I had an aunt and uncle who had a turkey farm and even though the turkey's had a perfectly good building to go into if it rained they would huddle outside with their heads turned up and some would drown.

They're not the most intelligent creatures. Geese and chickens are the same way. I agree they should have let the turkey get his jolly before pumpin' him full o lead.

Well, the new Champ has a name..... Sweet Pea. She is able to see a little. She only sees what is right in front of her. She seems to be doin' pretty good. She isn't completely weaned yet but it's a commin'.  Mommy and siblings are being transferred outside this coming weekend. I have to watch Baby Dexter around her. He gets carried away, and plays too rough sometimes.

Wonder if you'll have problems getting them to stay outside.

Dex, I really wanted you to see this:

http://theunknownzone.us/smf/index.php?topic=2148.msg313483#new

If you ever visit San Diego, let me know and I'll be sure to give you directions or take you there myself.

The downside (but I don't really think that it is a downside)  is that even though I don't have alergies, my eyes were swollen and nose stoppy the next day. I guess it was feline overload.

Honestly, I can't wait to go back.

That is neat.  I am allergic so I can imagine what I would be like after spending time with that many cats.....

If you have cat allergies you would probably die at my house.  :spooked: We got the critters in and outside.

BTW....I'm weaning Sweet Pea from her mama and siblings. I moved them out to the cat barn yesterday. She seems OK but hubby said she was fussy while I was at work. The Mama cat  snuck in when I got home, and I caught her nursing the kitten and cleaning her. I feel bad separating them but the others had to go outside. We've been havin' some potty training problems, and if I can't get Sweet Pea trained hubby is threatening to put her outside too.  :spooked: I don't want that at all !!! She reminds me of Champ sooooo much. When I tell her she reminds me of Champ she cocks her head to the side, and just stares at me so long. Maybe, Champ came back to me as Sweet Pea.

You just never can tell about animals.  They have a strange way of knowing things sometimes it seems.  Sure hope you can get the potty training thing figured out.

She's really fussy tonight. I tried a bottle but she didn't want it. She finally fell asleep here by my keyboard about 15 minutes ago. Weaning is hard but it has to be done. :-\
