Title: Ya Can't Beat Fun at the Ol' Courthouse!
Post by: Ma and Pa on March 31, 2009, 11:12:22 AM
Well, the folks over on the Cass County board have held the limelight with their DVD-snatching dirty cop, but we in Madison Co. don't have to take a back seat to any county when it comes to shameful conduct by public officials. Not when we have the likes of boozy City Councilman Ollie Dixon, who was arrested Saturday night with a 0.20 BAC level-- over twice the legal limit. Dixon was patted-down twice prior to his arrival at the Graybar Hotel, and searched twice more by officers before being safely esconced in the Virldeen Redmond suite by the Sheriff's finest; so you may imagine their chagrin when Ollie, in stumbling around to survey his new lodgings, managed to drop his loaded revolver out of a pants leg! "Lucy! You got some 'splainin' to do!"

Mayor Kris Ockomon was "stunned" by the news of the esteemed councilman's arrest, opining that the incident was "unbelievable". Come on, Mayor, that was Dixon's THIRD arrest for DUI; you don't have much sense of credulity if a third offense is still unbelievable -- how many arrests does it take? Incidentally, Dixon got off with a very light slap on the wrist his first two times on these charges; is there any reason to believe the outcome will be much different on this occasion?

As if the Dixon case weren't sufficient to put Madison ahead of Cass, let me offer up the case of Kyle Barber, who, when 17 cases of voter fraud against him were "conveniently" dropped, was recently hired by the city's Democratic administration to work in the Water Pollution Control Dep't. This at a time of hiring freezes and budget cuts. So, Cass, we'll see your crooked cop with our drunken councilman, and raise you a dubious hiring of a well-connected political lowlife. Ain't political poker a hoot?    :icon_twisted:

Well, the Republican Sheriff plans to pursue felony charges against Jolly Ollie, a Democrat, for sneaking a .45 into the jail's holding area. Ollie's outraged; claims it's the PD's responsibility to find the popgun, not his obligation to volunteer such info. It's the "if a tree falls in the forest..." argument, I guess: "if you don't find my weppin, I don't got no weppin." Plus the 5th Amendment protects our local lowlifes from having to "incrimernate theyselves", doesn't it? Somehow I think if it had been you or me, we'd have gotten that old strip search right up front; no possibility of smuggling even an aspirin hidden in belly-button lint into the hoosegow. But maybe I've got it all wrong on this. Maybe.    >:(

We also would have probably mysteriously fallen down and bruised ourselves.

In all fairness, I want to point out that the Madison Co. Police Dep't. (Sheriff's office) has historically been a much better run and smoother operating unit thru various administrations of both parties than the often scandal-ridden Anderson Police Dep't., which seems especially prone to political fiascoes. Just my observation.      Non-political Pa

Well, I hope it's just a family squabble taken to extremes by a rebellious and recalcitrant teen, then blown out of proportion by the local scandal sheet, but the front page of today's "Herald-Bulletin" screamed out a report of the arrest of (North) Madison Co. Commissioner Jeff Hardin on charges of battery and criminal confinement by his daughter, age 18. 'Scuse me, but I'm hoping this is just a father-daughter disagreement that can be worked out without the intervention of the court system, because of Hardin's long career in law enforcement and local politics, as well as his involvement with a popular blue grass group known for supporting charitable causes in our area. BUT... if the charges are PROVEN to be based in fact -- you're on your own, Jeff.

me: Regarding the pistol-packin' councilman, Ollie D, the last I'd heard on this case was that the esteemed Rodney Cummings (now THERE'S a sterling individual!) has been appointed "special prosecutor" to handle the Dixon case. This appointment was made by Madison Co. Prosecutor Tom Broderick, who may be too busy trying to keep his drinkin' and drivin' sons out of jail to handle local legal problems himself. 'Sides, old Tom has been known to do a little sippin' and steerin' himself, so he probably understands that situation better than the ramifications of sneaking a loaded smokepole into the local hoosegow. Do you think Rodney, a born-again Republican best known for his vendettas against hardened criminals of the Democratic persuasion is gonna let the chance to drop the hammer on a Demo councilman slip thru his manicured pinkies? Why, I'd
sooner expect to see Exterminator and Dan Foster sittin'  in the front row of the Baptist church, waiting for the opportunity to drop a fistful of legal tender in the collection plate!

With the bulk of the activity around the Madison Co. Prosecutor's office having to do with finding an impartial persecutor, er, prosecutor to handle cases involving our elected deficients, er, officials, "to avoid any appearance of impropriety",  I have a suggestion: next election, why don't the Dems and Reps run candidates from outside the county to serve as prosecutor? Think of the time to be saved in not having to hunt up an outside hired gun, and the job pays an annual salary, so we wouldn't have the extra expense of the outsider! Ol' Pa's always lookin' out for your interests; you know I'm here to help.

What an idea Pa.  Except once they are voted in, they won't be an outsider any longer.  Your idea is flawed.
