Since the Administrators of Enid's Hey Martha Forum strictly censor the comments which are not neo-con in nature, I would like to start a thread criticising what is actually happening in enid. The good-old-boyze (I hope), do not have any power here.
One of the most serious problems we have here in Enid is that we have a newspaper that misreports, under reports, and reports only what the good-old-boyze network wants them to report,
There is a chance that Enid would be better off without a paper than one that is erroneous and a propaganda machine.
We have a city manager that spends money like it is going out of style, rules in a dictatorial fashion, and has never run a city before. The majority of the population hate him.
We have a city council which deliberates behind closed doors, does not allow for dissent, and votes 7-0 on almost every vote. Not to mention the fact that almost every ordinance or measure is declared an "emergency". They keep raising our taxes and giving the money to their friends.
I have lived in many cities throughout my life, but, I have never lived in such a corrupt city as the one I grew up in and now am retired in.
A few years ago Enid was named as one of the best cities to live in. A "frontporch" community. The people who have made Enid what it is are the friendliest , most helpful, class of citizens who I have ever met. Unfortunately, two years ago we got a new city manager, Eric Benson, and a new mayor, John Criner, who instigated a cleanup program where they sent policemen on a house-to-house search to enforce the International Building Maintenance Code. A draconian housing code which actually allows them to come into your home and tell you how to live. Read it sometime, if you get the chance. The fact is they only inspected "old" Enid in an attempt to grab property for local developers who I probably should not name. Since that time Enid is one of the worst places to live. They have turned neighbor against neighbor. They are spending money on good-old-boy projects like money is going out of style. Which, in this recession, it is. But that is my money that they are spending. And we can't do a thing to stop them. Money is power. The good old boys in Enid are a dangerous bunch. Please come visit our lovely city...but beware...you do not want to stay in a place like this, unless you have pockets full of money...or, like me, you cannot be scared by the powers that be. More later. If we can rid ourselves of the Inquisition, Enid will be what our forefathers 100 years ago established, a beautiful and free community.
Yuck! That reminds me of what the Ford company used to do to its employees back in the day. That is unacceptable. I'm sorry your town is going through that. Stay here and bitch!! You'll feel better about it.
Yet all is not lost! Changes are coming in E-town. Enid is about to become a wheelchair friendly city, one of very few in Oklahoma. The ADA has been largely ignored in Oklahoma, and Enid is in the process of rectifying that locally.
C'mon, X--There are some stars in that dark, moonless sky.
Welcome LK!
Hi LK. Yes, i am very grateful to those who are responsible for making our city ADA compliant. As my infirmities progress, I find those accommodations more and more beneficial. It is too bad that the ADA was written in such a way as to make it necessary for the courts to force our fair city to comply. If city officials would have started on these accommodations when the act was created, it would not have been so difficult to afford them. As it is, our city admin is now in the process of destroying some of the finest public architecture in Enid as a method to avoid their responsibility to make public buildings accessible.
There is at least one star in my night. That is you, my Northern Star, whom helps me to keep my compass aligned. TY!
TY, Kimmie & X for the welcome. It's yet another world to explore. :tweed:
Just checking in.
Hello. I'm not from Enid, but I do frequent the Zone. Good to see you here.
Happy New Year to everyone.
