Post by: Henry Hawk on September 20, 2006, 01:30:01 PM
I totaly believe in the power of Prayer....

anyone who want's to have a prayer team for their concerns....here is the place to do it....

even if you don't believe in prayer, but would like to leave your concerns here for those who do...that is just fine too...

I definitely believe in the power of prayer, not just in healing but in everyday life.

For example: I was trying to make a very difficult decision a couple of weeks ago. (Some of you know what I'm talking about).
I was very prayerful about this and kept asking that I somehow knwo what to do.
I honestly believe my life became so overwhelming and chaotic (with the car breaking down and then totalling it) that I had to take care of what was most important and not do what I was contemplating.
I do believe that everything happens for a reason. We just don't know what it is all the time.

The power of prayer is amazing... even to unbelievers!  I remember hearing on the radio recently that doctors had proven that patients who had prayers sent in their stread healed quicker and more completely than those who did not.  Lots of us knew that already...

Wooooooooo Hoooooooo, just came from my Daughter's doctor, It is not full blown cancer. Still are having a hyst. but the big C is not what we are dealing with.

The power of prayer is real, it went from cancer to pre cancer. The second test confirmed this. So I would just like to thank you all for all the prayer, and or good thoughts........THANK YOU!

My sister came over last night to tell me she has been (and still is) having awful pain on her right side under her ribs plus some blurry vision.  I think it may be diabetes because our dad has it.  She had some blood work done Tuesday and an ultra sound done Wednesday.
She was already talking last night like it was cancer. I told her to stop borrowing trouble and continue to pray. I hope the doctor is able to give her some information today to ease her anxiety.
Please pray for her physically and spiritually.

(and mentally, BEG)

In any event, the mind is a powerful tool...if she's already feeling doomed, it will be harder for her fight whatever she has going on.

Will keep your sister in my thoughts...

My sis called me and said that the doctor said that the ultra sound looked okay - no gall stones or tumor looking masses on or around her kidneys, liver, etc.
So he doesn't know what could be causing her the pain just in one area.
Regardless she was relieved to know that much. Her blood work didn't change any from 8 months ago - not that that is good - her triglicerites(sp?) and chlorestral are still high.  :spooked:

Anyway she has some medicine to take and hopefully by the middle of next week, she will be feeling a little bit better or go bad and be sent to a specialist.

I'm doing that actually as we speak. I'm selling the kids old clothes and stuff they no longer use (highchair, toys, etc) to a consignment shop. I'm going to have our trash service downgraded to pickup every 2 weeks (that's all we ever use anyway!), I am considering either cutting out our premium channels or our internet for the fall and winter, to encourage physical activity during a season I enjoy being outside (and in the winter, when I prefer to be on my couch), I'm looking at websites for money conservation. I found, and posted about one in my area of the forum. Neat stuff. Things that are good for everyone to do, because those pennies to add up. (The goal: to invest the savings into an investment account of some sort. Not sure which one yet; I'm probably going to save and wait until after I have my Series 6/63 next year.)

Thanks my friends. I appreciate your prayers. It seems that some work that I had done on my house in preparation of pouring the concrete floor, was not done as was contracted. I have a concrete slab floor with 1600 ft of tubing set in the concrete to provide the heat for the house. I had an exterminator do a termite treatment of the area under the slab before I poured the floor, to insure that I would never have any trouble with termites. Sadly I have just learned that they did not put the chemical for termites on my foundation as I had paid them to do. So now the state is filing charges against that company and the company will be forced to make it right. Unfortunately, that won't be an easy task since the floor has been poured and the interior is well toward completion. I am hoping that they can do the work through the foundation from the outside. I will be continuing to work on the house and pray that they will be able to fix their problem without slowing the progress on our home. Lord willing it will all work out without too much trouble. Thanks again my friends!

Okay guys...my husband has been wanting to become a load broker for quite some time. He'd be home every night like "normal people," he'd get to use his brain on a daily basis, its much safer than driving...

Well he may have his chance. Much sooner than we'd expected. I need any prayers I can get for my husband to get his chance with one of the opportunities he's applied for. Yes, its less money for us initially, but it means he'd be home for dinner every single night, something we haven't had in over 3 years.

Daisy, for what it is worth, having a family dinner every night as a family, to me is worth more than you can ever count by dollar bills....your kids will get more out of that, with Mom and Dad with them every nite than, getting a brand new home or being driven around in a new car...at least from my point of view....and It is better for a marriage, and the kids will notice that too.

you can count on a prayer from ole henry for ya, Daisy... ;) :)

Keep the prayers coming. He's leaving this afternoon for an interview in Southern Missouri. He'll be gone A LOT but has 14 weeks vacation paid each year. He'll be hauling around pianos for individuals as well as various concerts.

I was pushing for the "normal" job where he'd be in and office in the day and home at night, but it this opportunity with the piano movers comes first, we have to take it and put the brokering thing on the backburner for a while. If he gets the piano job, he can actually end up doing both...Right now my concern is the money situation...we are in some dire financial straits.

His job interview is today at 9am, well that is St Louis time, so 10 am for us.

I hope this is the right thing. I was talking to his friend Aaron last night (yes there are 3 Aarons, 4 including my son, in our lives. It gets confusing) and he was telling me that his parents did hauling for the entertainment biz, and they'd be gone 6-11 months at a time. He seemed to think that is why they offer 14 weeks vacation, because he'll be gone so much that they have to compensate for the hometime somehow. Anyway, we both have odd feelings about it, by my Aaron is determined and he wants this pretty bad.

Not yet, but then again, he's not sure about this job after making the 300 mile drive out. He has a couple other things on the horizon that might work better for him. He's just now thinking about the time he'd be away from home compared to what he's used to being gone.

I apologize for the late reply.

The LRHG's mom was sent back to the nursing home after giving her a breathing treatment. She still sounds rough, but because she is under hospice care, she was not allowed to be admitted to the hospital. Her mom seems to have improved in her breathing. It is hard to understand why the Lord would keep her with us like she is, but I am sure He has a purpose.

About a year ago, teh LRHG's mom did something that was really amazing. She had not spoken an understandable sentence in a few years, yet in the middle of the night one night, a nurse heard some noises were coming from her room. When she went to check on her, she was laying in her bed singing Amazing Grace. The nurse said that she sang the entire song from start to finish, clearly, without missing a beat, and then just went back to sleep. She touched that nurses heart that night. Maybe the Lord has a plan to use her to touch another person's heart too. It is hard to say what the reasons are. I do know it breaks my wifes heart each time she sees her mom.

And to be completely honest Daisy, it is more than just her mom's health problems as to why she isn't online anymore. She had some bad things happen to her recently with some people who we thought were our friends. It was purely unjustified and unprovoked, and it broke her heart. She in no way deserved what was done! :'(

Thanks for your care and concern my friends. I will pass that along to the LRHG.

Need some prayers for my father in law. He was put into the hospital last night with chest pains. He has had heart problems in the past and usually will not say anything to anyone if he is hurting. This time HE asked to be taken to the hospital so we know he was hurting bad. They are running tests today and we're hoping everything will turn out fine, but please keep him in mind.

I'm jump starting this thread, I kind of let it slip away......I know many on here believe in prayer...and even for those who don't, it is still a good source to share burdens with one another....

we have many right now that are carrying heavy burdens and this IS the place to leave them.....I for one, truely believe in turning problems over to the Lord, that He can and Will grant peace to those who wish to put their trust into Him...

Here is a prayer now for those who are in need of comfort....

May the Lord Bless you and keep you
the Lord let His face shine upon you and comfort you
the Lord turn His head towards you and give you peace...

I have another request today...we received 'the' call yesterday that my sister-in-law appears to be losing her battle with Cancer. She had been in CT attempting to obtain alternative treatment, but was angel-flighted home on Saturday evening due to severe & rapid-spreading infection throughout, in addition to a broken vertabrae/inability to walk. They will be taking her to her primary oncologist today for an assessment/prognosis. She's only 42 and entirely way too young to die...but I know that's out of our control. Please keep her, her husband, my husband & the family in your thoughts/prayers today.

Hey Guys, My 16-year old son was at a Super Bowl Party, Sunday, and passed out and went into a seisure.  Nothing like this ever has happend to him before.  He was taken to the ER by ambulance and had no controll of his left arm or leg.  We met with a specialist yesterday, and they are doing a eeg today and a MRI on friday.  He still cannot control his left arm.  I am asking for prayers for him.  I am extremely anxious to get busy on this.  I hate we have to wait until Friday to continue this.  I appreciate any prayers that you can give.

Thanks,

Henry

My son had his eeg done yesterday, it came back all clear, so that is good.... they gave him a presciption for a drug called depakote, that should stop his twitching on his left hand.  They now want to admit him for four days and hook him up and video tape him.  He gets a MRI on friday. If that comes back okay, then all of the "bad" things would be ruled out....and they can treat the seizure.  He is in the winter percussion at his High School....He is supposed to play this weekend at a state tournament.  He has one of the main leads in it, and he is very nervous if he will be able to play.  He has worked so hard for this, I'm hoping this drug will help him enough to allow him to play....and they admit him next week....anyway, I truly appreciate everyones prayers and concerns for my son....it really is nice having a "forum" family to turn to.....thanks again...

Henry... :)

Hello Everyone, Well, I'm back after a long week in the Hospital with my son.  Last Sunday Night, when my son got back from percussion competition, he was up in his bedroom.  After a couple of hours, I went up to check on him and he was on the floor and could not get up....I took him to the Emergency Room and they decided his medication needed adjusted.  The next morning, His neurologist called and said he wanted him admitted immediately and wanted to have him hooked up to a monitor and a camera for 96 hours.  So we did, and we are home now.  We won't know the results until this coming Thursday.  I want to thank EVERYBODY for their prayers. ... :)

BEG, no need for apologies, you have had a lot of well deserved things going on in your life... ;) :)

Hey, the doctor said that my son is 95% free of 'anything bad'....meaning probably no tumors.....he said that though they did not find anything bad, they did not find anything at all, so at this time, they want him to go off the medicene and see if he has anymore seizures....

on a bad note, he cannot drive for at least 6 months, and that is hard for a 17-year old to take....but, I don't want him, having a seizure while driving and be hurt or hurt someone else...

anyway, if you can keep this whole situation in your prayers for a few more days and hopefully, he won't have anymore attacks...

thanks,

henry

I could use some prayer for a presentation that I have to give today and Saturday, about some project ideas that the youth pastor and I have for our church. These projects would greatly benefit the children and the church. Please pray that the other pastors and deacons will be able to share in the vision that the youth pastor and I have, and allow us to start the projects quickly. Thanks for your prayers and God Bless you all!

My cousin - 32 years old, policeman, husband and new father - had his left arm taken off last fall due to a cancer that they could not surgically remove.  It was heartbreaking but he learned to adapt and has been back to work.  Last week he went in for an MRI and they found something and have sent in tissue to be examined.  Please pray for Mike that everything is fine and that it is just scare tissue or something fixable.  They have been through so much up until now!  Thanks.

I don't know if this is an appropriate thing to ask for prayer for but, my kitten Maddie had her eye surgically removed on Thursday, and seems to be somewhat sick. I'm really concerned that she might be getting pneumonia. If she isn't better by tommorrow, I'm calling the vet. I've got a heavy heart tonight. A friend of mine is going through a real bad time. His Dad has suffered from cancer for years, and it went to his brain, and he passed on Monday. My friend and his fiancee are pregnant. She's 22 and has had 3 heart attacks. It is really a miracle that she became pregnant to begin with, and it was a wonderful surprise. They promised Joe's Dad, if he could hold on until March, before anybody held the baby, Joe's Dad  got to be the very first person to hold it. Well, as I said Joe's Dad passed on Monday. And more tragedy has followed. Today, Joe's fiancee Vica was having tests done, to see if she would be strong enough to carry the baby to term. During one of the tests, the doctor inserted a scope into her womb, and ruptured her womb, causing a spontaneous abortion. I was soo shocked when I got that call. I could not believe such a horrible thing could happen to these wonderful people.  Joe has had a kidney transplant, and I understand that he is physically sick from all of this, he hasn't slept since his Dad died. And Vica is in a hospital in Iowa, all by herself. His Dad's funeral is tommorrow, and we've got an ice storm moving in. I honestly don't know how much more that poor family can take. Please say a prayer for my friends Joe and Vica they have been through sooo much this week. Thanks.

Okay my turn.

My friend Allison went the the ER today and was put on bed rest. She is 20 weeks pregnant - I think that is wrong and she is only 18 but I'm not the doctor! She has what is technically called and incompetent cervix, meaning it is too thin to carry a pregnancy. She lost a child last year at 12 or 13 weeks. She has been having contraction like cramping. They gave her medicine to stop that but they may have to sew her up.

Please number one pray that she carries this baby to term or at least close enough that it will be okay to deliver, but also pray for their financial security. She is basically the bread winner in the family, as her teaching job pays more than his physical therapy job. If she goes on bed rest, she will eat up all of her sick leave which is what we have to use for maternity. We don't get a paid maternity leave like most other jobs do. She has a little bit of disability from the county and has an extra disability that should pay the mortgage for a few months at least. It is a real mess.

Sadly these two are the most optimistic people I know and it is to a fault in my opinion. They plan for the best and get the worst unfortunately. This baby is named, has a website, the nursery is almost complete, etc... If she loses this baby, it might kill them both spiritually. Please just pray that everything works out in all areas of this pregnancy. Thanks!

Thanks!

I'll keep them in my prayers Kimmi. I hope everthing goes alright.

Tonight, I found out that Vica tried to kill herself today.  :'( She was still in the hospital and under heavy sedation. Apparently she snuck out of her room, and got some injectable medication. The hospital staff caught her trying to inject it into her arm, because she wants to die. I worried something like this might happen. Please keep Vica and Joe in your prayers. This story gets sadder all the time.  :'(

Oh Dex I am so sorry to hear that.  I think her desperation is the saddest part.  I will certainly pray for her.

Update on Allison - She is going back to the doctor tomorrow.  I don't think anyone thinks he will put her off of the bed rest.  The medication she is taking to controll the contractions is making her very sick.  I thought this would be medication she would take for a while and then the body would react normally soon.  Apparently not.  She will have to take them for the duration of her pregnancy.

The baby's bones were measured last week.  I guess all of them are growing normally but the femur bones are about 2 weeks behind schedule.  I'm not sure what they means but they were given best and worst scenerios for that too.

Allison's husband Mark is such a trooper and a wonderful man.  He is so supportive and I just pray that his optimistic strength filters down to this baby!

It looks pretty bleak for Joe and Vica. They don't know if she will be able to have more children. The doctors are real sketchy about her condition. She is now in the mental ward, and won't be realeased for a month. She isn't allowed to have any visitors, or phone calls. Joe is taking care of his Mom, she's been in bad shape since Joe's Dad died last week. Vica is all by herself in Iowa. Vica is an orphan with no family members. She's Russian and she grew up in Russia. It must be horrible going through all of this by herself.

I hope everything is okay with your friends baby. There's a lot more technology today, than we ever have had, concerning babies. There is a lot they can do. I will keep them in my prayers.

This is a grim update on Joe and Vica....

Joe and Vica split up four months after they lost the baby. Vica met a worker at the mental hospital and they broke up. They had both moved on. Joe got married 2 weeks ago. Vica had moved back to the area. Sunday, Joe kept getting the feeling he should call her, and he did. I don't know what kind of conversation they had. Sunday evening her sister ,whom she had reconnected with, went to see her. Vica had slit her wrists, and shot herself in the head.  :'( That poor girl had a hell of a life. Her father was shot, and killed trying to escape over the Berlin Wall (they're Russian) while Vica's Mom was pregnant with her. Her Mom died when Vica was a child, and Vica and her 5 siblings were shuffled around to orphanages. They all went separate ways. Vica had severe heart problems her entire life. When her and Joe got together it really turned her life around. After they lost the baby she  tried to kill herself repeatedly. She just turned 25 last week. I think she realized it was over with Joe, and she was all alone, and she just couldn't take the pain and suffering any longer. This saddens me greatly. Please say a prayer for all of us we really need it right now.  :'(

Thanks guys.... It was a shock but, in a way it wasn't. A person has to be in a very dark place to commit suicide. That's the part that bothers me the most. She had lost all hope, and it is soooooo sad her life ended the way it did. Joe is taking it pretty bad. His Mom is completely devastated. She actually collapsed when she heard the news.  :'( My heart has been very heavy today. One of my friends called me this morning, and told me about it. It was the longest day at work I ever had.

I know I don't usually visit here but I just got this news: http://edition.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/asiapcf/02/20/srilanka.hrw/index.html?iref=newssearch  I have a friend I talk to almost daily who lives there, her name is DilshiyaS Saranasekera but we call her Dil for short.  She always has her Yahoo messenger on and it isn't now and a mutual friend in Paris hasn't gotten a response to her text.  I understand things might be down but this is the first time she hasn't gotten a message to us some way to let us know she is ok.  Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers.  :'(

I understand that many, if not most of you do not put much stock in the power of prayer....but, I am going to request it, I learned a few moments ago, that a young man from PHHS, (Pendleton Heights High School) who is in the same grade as my daughter, hung himself last night.  He was an excellent young man, who was involved in wrestling, and was very popular among his classmates.  His father was an assistant coach at the middle school, and coached my two older sons.  There was no apparent warning or indication of depression.  The kids at the school are devasted, and community is going to take it tough.  It has torn at my heart very heavy....to imagine, WHAT in the world could make such a good kid, with plenty of friends, wonderful parents, turn to such extremes, and end his life..... :(

I think he is very interesting. This is the third class I have taken based on one of his books. The first one gave a brief overview of the major world religions with interviews with leaders of each religions. The second traced the lineage of the major christian religions and their differences with emphasis on Methodists (this included an interesting discussion on homosexuality). The one I am taking now is about the last 24 hours of Jesus' life and how it changed the world. There are videos to go with each book but I don't know how available they are.
