Title: Mommy Dearest at the Mall!
Post by: Mr442 on December 15, 2008, 09:10:38 AM
   My letter to the editor of the Terre Haute paper.

On Saturday, November 13, 2008, the wife and I were shopping in Honey Creek mall.  We started hearing a child crying very loudly, sometimes screaming.  The screams were coming from the direction we were heading, and eventually we came across the source.  A small child of about two years old was being forcibly restrained, while her ears were being pierced.  It was obvious that Mommy Dearest wanted the child's ears mutilated, and not the child.  She was way too young to begin to understand what was taking place.  All she knew, was that it hurt very badly.   Mom, you should be ashamed of yourself.  Purposely hurting your little one, for the sake of your own vanity, or for any reason is unacceptable.  The child was a baby, not some teenage girl.  How would you like it if I held you down and inflicted pain on you?  That would be assault wouldn't it?  Since I didn't wish to spend the rest of my weekend in jail, I walked past without saying anything.  Had I stopped and said something, there would not have been a pleasant end for anyone involved.

WTF is wrong with people?  We are suppose to protect our children from such BS.  I really wanted to do something, but I think the crowd around the kiosk thought it was cute.  I've been pissed all weekend.

When I worked at the mall in a store, the piercing kiosk was right outside.  Whenever they put me in the front as greeter, they knew that if someone brought a baby to be pierced, I wouldn't stand up there.  I think it is crap.

I don't like seeing a babies ears pierced.  Never figured out what the point in it was.

Yeah, people whose get shots for their kids should be shot themselves.  And who gives permission for circumcisions?

shots are for the better health of the child....and circumcisions help keep the penis clean and helps with infections and such.  what good does holes in your ears do....nothing....they are for cosmetic reasons only...not for the health of the child like shots and circumcision.

I was responding to the portion of 442's post that said 'for any reason'.  Obviously, there are very good reasons to do some things to your children that are likely to cause them pain in the process.

Actually, I agree. I think parents should wait until their daughters request it themselves, but that's hindsight.

Okay, I had my daughter's ears pieced when she was a year old. Only because she didn't have a lot of hair at that point and regardless of the pretty outfits everyone always called her a boy. In retrospect, that was a silly reason, especially considering that when I took her for ice cream afterwards and she had on her frilly bright pink outfit, the lady asked me how old my son was. <sigh> I realized then that the problem wasn't jewlery, it was stupid people. In my daughter's case, she didn't cry, tear up or even whimper, she held perfectly still. I was surprised because I expected something, but she was happy-go-lucky. Had she been afraid or even have cried, I wouldn't have gone through with it and had already made up my mind that I wouldn't.

When she received her 1st shots, the look of shock and betrayal on her face was enough to haunt me for weeks. I would definitely not have gone through with the piercings if she had seemed even slightly timid. It might have helped that she watched a couple girls in front of her who didn't react either.

But those poor baby boys are unable to walk for nearly a year after the procedure!

Sympathy. They feel sorry for us poor, clipped boys.

This guy walks into a bar looking all sad.  The bartender says, "What's the matter buddy , you look sad?"

The guy says, "We just had a new baby boy."

The bartender says, "That's no reason to be sad."

The fellow replies, "Well he just lost about half his weight yesterday."

The bartender then says, "Oh that's terrible what  happend, is he sick?"

"Oh no" the father replies, " They circumsized him."
